Firmware 4.0 Jailbreak / Unlock

Step 0:

Update to original iPhone 4.0 firmware via iTunes.

• Also you can Download Firmware 4.0 separatelly if you like and save it to your desktop.

3G Users: - DOWNLOAD iPhone 4.0 firmware

Depending on your PC the above IPSW File may not save as an ipsw file, it may save as a ZIP file, (so iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore.zip) if it does you will need to change the file type (the ending) to ISPW so that redsnow can locate it.

Make sure that you safe the above file in a place on your PC that it will be easy to find it and then watch the video below as this is the easiest way for me to show you how to change the file type:

Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes 9.1.1

Step 2: Now start iTunes and sync your iPhone with your PC so that it backs-up all your important data including settings, apps, music, contacts and photos.

Step 3: Download Redsn0w and update your firmware using itunes automatic method or download the original iPhone OS 4.0 for your version of iPhone (download links given below). Move all these files to your desktop

Step 2: Start redsn0w and point it to the respective original iPhone 4.0 firmware to proceed.

Step 3: Now select “Install Cydia”, “Unlock” and “Already pwned” options for iPhone 2G.

Step 4: Now make sure your device is both OFF and PLUGGED IN to the computer before you click “Next”.

Step 5: Connect your device in recovery mode by pressing the Power and buttons continuously.

At this stage you will be presented with a screen where you will have to quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

Step 6: Sit back and enjoy while redsn0w will do all the rest for you. Once done, your iPhone 3G will restart automatically and you will find it jailbroken with iPhone firmware version 4.0.

Step 7: Once your iPhone is jailbroken, start “Cydia” application on your iPhone and touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom. Now touch on “Sources” as seen in the screenshot below:

Note: T-Mobile users should disable 3G internet before installing ultrasn0w.

Step 8: Touch on “Edit” and then on “Add”. You will be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com and touch on “Add Source”.

Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.

Step 9: Once the repository has been added successfully, Search for “ultrasn0w” in Cydia and install this application. The latest version 0.92 of this app will automatically unlock your iPhone so that you can use it with any carrier with proper carrier name/logo.

Step 10: Now simply restart your iPhone. Voila! You should now have a fully unlocked iPhone 3G on firmware 4.0.
